Decades of Style Pattern Company produces reproduction home sewing patterns for women’s vintage styles. Although their patterns are authentic to the 1920s through the 1950s, many features have been added for the convenience of modern sewists. Thorough, step-by-step instructions are included – something not consistent in historic pattern reference, especially in the 1920s and 1930s when scant directions were common. Decades of Style patterns are also graded to fit a modern body block, and sizes that are included cover a much wider range than the original reference material.
Decades of Style wished to retain the authentic vintage flavor of the styles, even though the actual pattern product is modernized. A vintage-style illustration is shown instead of a cover depicting a photo of a contemporary model.
Highly stylized and indicative of the desired era, the cover illustrations are often a composite of several different original images. The garment depicted is often redrawn for accuracy, reflecting the actual seams and proportions. Finished illustrations are then digitally inked and painted from scratch using simulated pen nibs, brush textures, and faux fabric effects.
